#PerformancesYouMayHaveMissed: Schwartz's career finale

05/26/2020

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – As a first year in 2016-17, Liz Schwartz competed in seven tournaments with the College of Saint Benedict golf team. She recorded a season-low 82 in the first tournament of her career, the CSB Invite, and was part of the team's top five at the MIAC Championships.

In her sophomore and junior seasons, Schwartz competed in a handful of tournaments. She finished in the top 20 twice as a junior, including 14th after shooting a career-low 81 at the St. Kate's Fall Invite in September 2018.

But Schwartz was patient, put in the work, and in her senior season, her hard work paid off.

In 2019-20, Schwartz competed in the Bennies' top five in all five tournaments the team competed in, including her second appearance at the MIAC Championships. She recorded a career-best season scoring average, and broke 80 for the first time in her career three times in her final collegiate season.

After a top-35 finish at the team's home invite to start the season and a fifth-place finish at the Cobber Open, Schwartz recorded the best round and the best two-day total of her career at the Division III Classic in mid-September. She started the two-day tournament with a season-low 84, but shaved eight strokes off that score for a career-best 76 in the second round. That marked her first time breaking into the 70s, and helped the Bennies set the school record for 18-hole team score with a 305. Schwartz finished the weekend with a 160, the best 36-hole score of her career.

But Schwartz wasn't done there. After cracking into the 70s at the DIII Classic, she did it twice more at the 2019 MIAC Championships. She shot a 78 in the first round and a 77 in the third and final round to finish with a career-best 54-hole score of 241 – good for 11th in the conference. Schwartz was the team's top finisher as the Bennies finished in fifth. Her score of 241 is also enough to land her in the top 10 in program history

At the end of her senior season, Schwartz finished fourth on the team with a career-best scoring average of 84.2. She wraps up her four seasons with a career average of 85.8 in 37 rounds played.
