CSB picks up big dual win against Oles

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict swim and dive team picked up a big MIAC dual win against St. Olaf Friday night in Collegeville.
 
In the first dual meet against the Oles since December 2005, Saint Benedict came away with a 135-106 win on senior night.
 
"We got a win right from the start with the 400 medley relay, and that set the tone for the meet," head coach Mandy Wolvert said. "The Bennies swam great throughout the meet."
 
The 400 medley relay team of Mikayla Von Wahlde, Jessica Milstroh, Jacque Newhouse and Thea Oman started the meet off on a fast note for CSB with a win in the 400 medley relay. The foursome teamed up for a winning time of 4:13.25.
 
The relay win was one of four on the night for the Bennies, and first year diver Emily Quill accounted for two of the other three. She swept the diving competitions, winning both the one- and three-meter boards. She won the one-meter competition with a mark of 238.95, and the three-meter with a mark of 247.05 – the third-best mark in program history.
 
CSB swept both diving competitions. Artie Pomerenke took second on the one-meter board with a score of 231.95 and Mia Sabin finished third with a personal-best score of 213.15 – the ninth-best score in CSB history. In the three-meter competition, Sabin took second with a score of 221.30, the fifth-best score in program history, and Kylie Egger took third with a mark of 168.70.
 
Von Wahlde also picked up an individual win for the Bennies, taking first in the 100 backstroke in 2:14.29.
 
Ana Birklid took second in both the 100 free (55.95) and 200 free (2:00.82), and Claudia Mahoney took third in both. She finished the 100 free in 56.30 seconds and the 200 in 2:04.56. Morgan Murphy took second in both the 500 free (5:41.88) and 1,000 free (11:50.09), and Izzy Sonday took third in the 500 free in 5:43.93.
 
Molly Johanson finished second in the 200 IM (2:21.03) and 200 breaststroke (2:37.97), and Thea Oman finished second in the 50 free in 26 seconds. Zoe Allyson took third in the 50 free (26.09), Lauren Christiansen took third in the 200 IM (2:26.20) and 200 back (2:16.51) and Kayla Albers finished third in the 200 breaststroke (2:47). Brenna Sharp finished third in the 200 fly in 2:29.53 and Oman, Mahoney, Allyson and Birklid took second in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:46.37.
 
CSB returns to action and is back at home Saturday, Jan. 25, when it hosts the Gustavus swimmers at 1 p.m. on the SJU campus.
