ST. CLOUD, Minn. – For the second straight game, first year goalie
Ally Frantzick had a career night in net, but it wasn't enough for the College of Saint Benedict hockey team. The Bennies fell 5-0 to Augsburg Friday night in the first game of the MIAC series.
Augsburg scored twice in the first period, including on the power play with just eight seconds remaining to go up 2-0. The Auggies' first goal of the night came at the 10:21 mark of the first period. Augsburg's lone second-period goal came on the power play at the 7:29 mark, and the Auggies (11-5, 6-3) scored three minutes into the third period and then at the 15:44 mark. Both third-period goals were unassisted.
Saint Benedict struggled to find its rhythm offensively early in the game, putting just one shot on net in the first period and four in the second. The Bennies had 11 third-period shots, including three straight from
Julia Pias,
Bre Hess and
Annika Brodt, but none found the back of the net.
Augsburg finished with 40 shots on net to CSB's 16. Frantzick made 12 saves in the first and third periods and 16 in the second.
CSB and the Auggies are back in action Saturday, Jan. 25, at 4 p.m. in Minneapolis.
