Bistodeau’s late goal lifts CSB to win over Cobbers

MOORHEAD, Minn. – For two periods, every time the College of Saint Benedict hockey team scored Friday night, Concordia College had an answer.

In the third period, Rylan Bistodeau was finally able to stump the Cobbers.

Bistodeau scored in the final two minutes of the game to lift CSB to a 3-2 win over Concordia Friday in Moorhead in the first of a two-game series between the two teams. The win marks CSB's second against Concordia this season, and the third straight. Of the team's five wins over the Cobbers since 2002-03, three have come in the last two seasons.

With the score tied at 2-2 heading into the third period, Concordia (3-3, 1-2) came out firing. The Cobbers put 13 shots on net in the final period – but sophomore goalie Maggie Gilchrist stopped all 13. Saint Benedict (2-2, 1-2) , on the other hand, had just four shots, but made them count.

At the 18:22 mark of the third period, Bistodeau scored her first goal of the season to put her team up 3-2 off an assist from Myka Stave. The Cobbers pulled their goalie 10 seconds later, and Concordia had four shots on net in the final 1:10 of the game, but Gilchrist stopped all four shots to help her team to the win.

It was Saint Benedict that scored first in each of the first two periods of the game as well Friday night. Annika Brodt scored the first goal of her sophomore season at the 6:33 mark of the first period to give CSB a 1-0 lead. Hannah Lynse recorded the first assist of her collegiate career and Julia Pias also notched an assist. The Cobbers had an answer, however, as they scored with just over two minutes left in the period to head into the first intermission with the score tied 1-1.

In the second period, Stave notched her first goal of the season at the 2:21 mark to put CSB up 2-1, but the Cobbers answered three minutes later to tie the game at 2-2 and set up an exciting third period.

Concordia finished with 33 shots on net to the Bennies' 23. Mollie Wise, Brodt and Bistodeau all finished with four shots on net to lead the team. Gilchrist had 31 saves to preserve the win – including 13 in the third period alone.

CSB and Concordia are back in action at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, in Moorhead.
