ST. PAUL, Minn. – Last weekend, first year
Emily Quill came points away from a school record, and notched one of two qualifying marks on the one-meter diving board.
Saturday, she surpassed the record by more than 12 points, and officially qualified for regions.
For the third straight week, Quill won the one-meter (six-dive) competition for the College of Saint Benedict swim and dive team. Her win was one of nine for the Bennies Saturday afternoon in a dual against Macalester, and helped the team to a 158-85 victory over the Scots.
Quill's score of 268.20 marked a 12-point personal best, and broke the school record – one that had stood since 1997. The previous record was 264,60, set in 1997 by All-American Katie Macy. The record-setting score also marked Quill's second national qualifying score of the season, ensuring her a spot at the NCAA Central Zone meet in March. This marks the second straight season CSB will have a diver competing in the postseason.
Quill wasn't done there, however. In just her second time competing on the three-meter board, she took second with a score of 225.40 – a 22-point personal best and the fourth-best score in school history. Teammates
Artie Pomerenke took second on the one-meter board with a score of 239.25 and
Mia Sabin finished third on the three-meter board with a mark of 176.20.
