ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The Saint Benedict soccer team is in the MIAC Tournament - now it's just a matter of who the team plays Tuesday and where. CSB gets one last chance to move up in the league standings Saturday, Nov. 2, when it hosts Carleton at 3:30 p.m.
CSB enters Saturday's game in fifth in the MIAC by a single point, and Carleton is in fourth by just one point. Saturday also marks the final home game of the regular season for the team's 11 seniors.
ABOUT THE KNIGHTS
Carleton picked up a big MIAC win - literally and figuratively - Wednesday when it scored seven goals in a win against St. Olaf. The Knights are a point above CSB in fourth in the MIAC standings, and have played some big games. They tied St. Thomas, and put up four goals in a win against third-place St. Kate's. Keeper Anna Roethler has had a big season and is fourth in the MIAC with a 0.74 goals-against average.
LAST MEETING
CSB beat Carleton 2-0 last last season in Northfield.
Nicole Newman scored the eventual game-winner in the first half, and
Megan Thompson added a goal 10 minutes into the second for good measure.
Kendall Koenen had four saves.
THE STORYLINE
Both Carleton and Saint Benedict want a win today to move up in the conference standings. CSB could finish anywhere from third to sixth, depending on its match against Carleton and how the rest of the league fares, and a win would mean home-field advantage for the first round of the playoffs.
WHO TO WATCH:
Megan Thompson came in clutch again Wednesday, scoring the team's only goal in a huge 1-0 win at Bethel. She is one goal away from tying the record for goals in a season. The team's defense also had a big day as it gave up just 11 total shots to the Royals.
