ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – After its first MIAC loss of the season Tuesday night against Augsburg, the College of Saint Benedict soccer team returns home Sunday, Oct. 20, when it hosts St. Olaf at 3:30 p.m.
CSB looks to start a new streak against the Oles – in more ways than one. As the 2019 regular season winds down, Saint Benedict needs to get back in the W column to stay atop the MIAC standings, and the team also looks to snap its four-game losing streak to the Oles, dating back to 2015.
ABOUT THE OLES
After tying league-leading Augsburg on Oct. 12, the Oles picked up their second MIAC loss of the season Tuesday when they fell 2-0 to St. Kate's. Tessa Anderson leads the team with five goals, but four others have three goals. Twelve total athletes on the Oles' roster have scored this season. In net, Brynne Davis is fourth in the MIAC with 62 saves.
LAST MEETING
Last year, the Oles snuck out of St. Joseph with a 1-0 win - the fourth straight one-goal win for St. Olaf over CSB. The Oles scored in the 37th minute, and CSB was never able to answer. St. Olaf had 10 shots on net to the Bennies' four, and
Kendall Koenen made nine saves in net.
THE STORYLINE
Saint Benedict picked up its first MIAC loss of the season Tuesday at Augsburg despite putting up eight shots on net to the Auggies' two. The team looks to bounce back from that loss and maintain its spot in the top six in the MIAC standings, and maybe even secure a home playoff game. CSB is also looking for its first win against St. Olaf since 2014. The Oles have four one-goal wins against CSB in the past four seasons.
WHO TO WATCH:
Mara Flaherty,
Rosie McGinty and
Megan Thompson all put a pair of shots on net Tuesday against the Auggies, but couldn't find the back of the net. Thompson continues to impress on offense, and is second in the league in points (28) and goals (12) this season. Flaherty and Thompson both have a team-high four assists.
