CSB soccer hosts Wildcats Tuesday

10/09/2018

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict soccer team seems to have found its groove, and the team looks to keep building on its momentum as the regular season starts to wind down. The team is back at home Tuesday, Oct. 9, for a 4 p.m. MIAC matchup against St. Kate's.

About the Wildcats
St. Kate's heads into Tuesday's matchup on a two-game winning streak thanks to a pair of double-overtime wins against Concordia and Saint Mary's. Lauren Witte scored the game winner less than a minute into the second overtime against the Cardinals, and Kaitlin Machovec had the game-winner in the 106th minute against Concordia. Witte leads the team with seven goals, Allie Bird has five assists and Tayler Koop has a 1.13 goals-against average and has played all nine games in net for the Wildcats.

Last Meeting
Today's game is a rematch of the 2017 MIAC Quarterfinals where CSB and the Wildcats tied in double overtime, but St. Kate's moved on to the conference semifinals – and eventually earn the league's automatic bid to nationals – thanks to a 4-3 win in a shootout. Megan Thompson scored CSB's only goal in the 1-1 tie. In the 2017 regular season, CSB beat St. Kate's 1-0 thanks to a goal two minutes into the second half.

The Storyline
With five games left in the regular season, St. Kate's is in fifth in the MIAC and CSB is one game behind in sixth. Both teams are looking to pick up some wins as the season winds down to move up in the league standings and secure a spot in the league's postseason tournament. Saint Benedict heads into Tuesday's game with some momentum as the team's 3-1 win at Saint Mary's marked the 100th of head coach Steve Kimble's career, and CSB looks to add win No. 101 to Kimble's resume.

Who to Watch
Sophomore forward Megan Thompson had her second two-goal game of the season Saturday in Winona, and leads the team with four goals. Briana Griffin added her second goal of the season in the 3-1 win. Kendall Koenen is sixth in the MIAC with 53 saves, including two in 68 minutes Saturday afternoon.
