Soccer celebrates senior day in final home match of regular season

10/23/2018

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – In the College of Saint Benedict soccer team's final home game of the regular season, head coach Steve Kimble will recognize the team's two seniors. On Wednesday, Bri Griffin and Corinne Seehusen wrap up their final regular-season home game as CSB hosts Macalester at 3:30 p.m. The duo looks to help Saint Benedict make a playoff push, and maybe even host a first-round tournament game.

ABOUT THE SCOTS
Macalester is 4-7-3 overall and 1-5-3 in the MIAC, but has hung tough with some of the league's best teams. The Scots tied with St. Olaf, and dropped a one-goal game to the Auggies earlier this season. Macalester is 2-1 in its last three games. Yukeria Haywood leads the team with three goals, and Goergia Kazemi has a team-high two assists. In the net, Kayla Togneri has a 1.19 goals-against average.

LAST MEETING
Last season, CSB and the Scots tied in double overtime in a night game in St. Paul. The two teams finished fairly equal with 13 shots each, and Macalester held a slim 6-5 edge in shots on net. Kendall Koenen stopped all six shots she faced to preserve the shutout, and Corrine Seehusen and Karen Phillips led the team with two shots each.

THE STORYLINE
A win at Hamline clinched CSB's 2018 playoff spot - now it's all about seeding. With a few wins to end the regular season, and some help around the league, Saint Benedict could move up from its current spot in sixth in the MIAC, and potentially host a first-round playoff game.

WHO TO WATCH:
Megan Thompson has come alive in recent games, and is up to eighth in the MIAC in points (20) and ninth with eight goals. She had a goal and an assist Saturday against the Pipers, and both Bri Griffin and Clara Noack scored their third goals of the year. Kendall Koenen is sixth in the conference with 68 saves to her name.
