ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – After a week with no games, the College of Saint Benedict soccer team is rested and ready to hit the road to take on Hamline University. The two teams meet in a MIAC game at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, in St. Paul
About the Pipers
As the regular season starts to wind down, Hamline is 4-10-1 overall and 1-7 and in 10
th in the MIAC. The Pipers head into Saturday's game looking to snap a four-game losing streak. Aside from a 3-0 nonconference win at Martin Luther, Hamline is 1-8 in its last nine games. Ciara Gregory leads the team with four goals and nine points, and Kaelin O'Fallon has a team-high three assists. Three keepers have seen time in net for the Pipers, but Dani Wright leads the crew with 974 minutes. She leads the MIAC with 86 saves.
Last Meeting
Last year in St. Joseph, Saint Benedict beat Hamline 2-1 thanks to a pair of second-half goals.
Madelyn Curtis got an assist on the game-tying goal in the 62
nd minute, and Sam Schorzman scored the game-winner in the 78
th minute. CSB finished the game with 27 shots to Hamline's four, including a 14-2 edge in shots on net.
Kendall Koenen made one save to earn the win.
The Storyline
With three games left in the regular season, CSB is in sixth in the MIAC, a single point behind fifth-place St. Kate's. CSB is guaranteed a playoff spot with a sixth-place finish, but the team looks to move up in the standings to try and gain home-field advantage for at least one game in the tournament. The Pipers, on the other hand, are looking to end the season on a high note and pick up a few more wins before their 2018 season comes to a close.
Who to Watch
Megan Thompson nearly doubled her total goals Saturday afternoon as she had a hat trick – the second of her career – to help CSB come back to beat Gustavus. She is currently tied for ninth in the MIAC with seven goals.
