ST. PETER, Minn. – Senior
Kenzie Young and sophomore
Mallory Jarvi both recorded personal bests to lead the College of Saint Benedict swimming and diving team in a dual against Gustavus Saturday afternoon.
The Gusties won the MIAC dual 205-97, but Young swam a career-best time in the 1,000 freestyle to lead the swimmers in St. Peter, and Jarvi recorded the best 3-meter (11-dive) score of her career at the Warner Palaestra Pool on the SJU campus in Collegeville.
"Our team had a great performance today," head coach
Dan Eckberg said. "They competed very hard and had a lot of energy from start to finish."
Young won the 1,000 in 11:10.34, a new personal best and the sixth-best time in CSB history. Jarvi won the three-meter diving competition with a mark of 390.65 – a personal best and the seventh-best mark in school history.
Lauren Christiansen,
Ashley Groebner and
Maggie Pomerenke also picked up wins for CSB Saturday. Christiansen won the 200 backstroke in 2:16.03, Groebner won the 200 breaststroke in 2:34.86 and Pomerenke won the one-meter (11-dive) competition with a score of 377.95.
Young also took second in the 200 IM in 2:17.78, and Christiansen also finished second in the 100 backstroke in 1:03.55. After winning the three-meter diving competition, Jarvi took second on the one-meter board with a score of 367.30.
Kristina Rudin also recorded a pair of top-three finishes as she took third in the 50 free (25.63) and the 100 fly (1:04.00).
Meghan Mokhtary took third in the 100 breaststroke in 1:13.04,
Brenna Sharp took third in the 200 fly in 2:39.65 and
Lisa Pahr finished third in the three-meter diving competition with a score of 321.30. Christiansen and Groebner teamed up with
Larissa Kleen and
Zoe Allyson to take third in the 200 medley relay in 1:55.96 and Young and Rudin combined with
Claudia Mahoney and
Meghan Kratz to finish third in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:53.31.
Saturday's dual marked the final tune-up of the season for CSB's MIAC Championship roster. The conference meet runs Feb. 15-17 at the U of M in Minneapolis. The remainder of CSB's roster competes Friday and Saturday, Feb. 2-3, at the UST Conference Invite in St. Paul.
