ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict soccer team is off to a hot start in 2017. Head coach
Steve Kimble and his squad look to translate that early success into wins down the stretch and a spot in the MIAC Tournament at the end of the season.
CSB heads into the week with three games on the schedule. Saint Benedict travels to Moorhead, Minn. on Tuesday, Sept. 12, to take on Concordia College at 4 p.m. Then, CSB returns home to host St. Thomas on Saturday and UW-River Falls on Sunday.
About Concordia:
Concordia College started the season 2-1-1, with wins over Buena Vista and UW-Superior. Last year, the Cobbers went 4-11-3, and lost to CSB 5-1 on Oct. 15 in St. Joseph. Kalli Baarstad leads the team with two goals and one assist this season. Maddy Reed leads the team in net with .49 goals against average through four starts.

On Sunday afternoon in Collegeville, CSB faced off against Loras in a nonconference game. In the 84
th minute after two saved shots and one shot that went off the crossbar,
Jane Koch got possession of the ball and sent it past the Duhawk's keeper and into the back of the net to lift CSB to a 3-2 win over region-rival Loras. Sophomore goalie
Kendall Koenen had a huge game in net for CSB as she stopped a career-high 11 shots to help preserve the win.
Kelsey Tatarek and
Jenna Kleason scored the first two goals for CSB, which had 26 shots to Loras' 23, and held a 15-13 advantage in shots on goal.

First year forward
Megan Thompson made a splashy debut when she scored four goals to lead CSB to a 5-1 victory over NWU.
Jane Koch leads the MIAC with 20 shots this season. Sophomore
Kendall Koenen is second in the MIAC with 16 saves.
Saint Benedict heads into the opening week of the MIAC season undefeated. The team gets to play on its new turf field across College Avenue for the first time on Sunday, Sept. 17, when it hosts UW-River Falls.
