ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict basketball team enters the MIAC postseason tournament Wednesday, Feb. 22, when it hosts to Saint Catherine University in Claire Lynch Hall. Game time is set for 7 p.m. as CSB looks to move into the semifinals with a victory.
The first 100 CSB|SJU students get in free to the game thanks to CSB athletics. Only MIAC passes will be honored at the door; the cost for admission is $7 for adults and $3 for students with valid ID.
About Saint Catherine
St. Kate's is 15-10 overall and 9-8 in the MIAC and finished fifth in regular-season league standings. The Wildcats' latest game was a 61-55 loss against Bethel on Saturday afternoon. Audra Clark is fifth in the MIAC with 15.2 points per game, fourth with 93 assists, and fifth with 52 steals. Lashay Holt adds another with 15.1 points per game, and is third in the league with 9.2 rebounds per game. Mari Lee leads the MIAC with a 44.1 three-point percentage. St. Kate's last went to the MIAC playoffs in 2010, and lost to the Blazers in the second round after upsetting the No. 3 seed in the first-round matchup.
Last Matchup
CSB and Saint Kate's faced off twice already this season, and the Blazers won both matchups.
The Blazers won the matchup 60-53 on Nov. 30 in St. Joseph. CSB was led by 12 points and 11 rebounds from
Niki Fokken.
Annie Dittberner and
Morgan Merritt both scored in double figures in the win. The Blazers got out to an early lead, and led 32-28 at halftime. The Blazers overcame 28 turnovers by out-shooting and rebounding the Wildcats. On Jan. 25, CSB won 50-47 in St. Paul.
Kate Banovetz and
Niki Fokken both recorded 17 points in the victory. Guetters' 10 rebounds led to a 47-32 advantage on the glass. The Blazers went 0-for-10 from the three-point line, but held the Wildcats to 16-for-58 shooting from the field.

Chelsey Guetter leads the team with 10.2 points and 7.7 rebounds per game and Fokken averages 9.0 points per game and 4.6 rebounds per game. Fokken is second in the MIAC with 47 blocks this season. Saint Benedict heads into Wednesday's game after a 60-55 overtime win at St. Mary's on Saturday afternoon. Dittberner scored 16 points and the Blazers had 21 bench points in the win. CSB forced 20 turnovers and shot 18-for-24 from the free-throw line. CSB knocked St. Mary's out of playoff contention with the win, which marked the first in Winona since 2011 for Saint Benedict.
The Storyline
CSB has just two losses at home this season, and looks to improve its home-court record to 11-2. CSB, which got off to a hot start to the 2016-17 season, looks to build momentum on a two-game win streak. St. Kate's averages 68.6 points per game, and CSB will need to slow them down like they did twice already this season. CSB is 14-1 when holding opponents to 55 points or less. The Blazers, fourth in playoff standings, are in the playoffs for the second straight year, but hosting for the first time since 2012-13. If CSB wins Wednesday, they will be back on the road for the MIAC semifinals at St. Thomas or Gustavus on Friday, Feb. 24.
