ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict basketball team takes on one of the hottest teams in the MIAC this Saturday, Jan. 7, when it travels to Saint Peter, Minn., to play an undefeated Gustavus squad. Game time is set for 1 p.m. as the two teams battle to stay near the top of the conference.

About the Gusties
Gustavus is 12-0 overall and 5-0 in the MIAC heading into this weekend's game. The Gusties are also receiving votes in the latest d3hoops.com women's basketball poll. The Gusties' latest win was a 73-51 victory over Augsburg Wednesday night. Mikayla Miller is second in the league in scoring at 18.1 points per game, and she is also tied for first with 5.1 assists per game. Hannah Howard is shooting 60 percent from the field this season, good for second in the MIAC.

Last Season
CSB and Gustavus faced off three times last season, and the Gusties won two of those contests, including a 65-40 win in the MIAC quarterfinals. Saint Benedict won the first matchup of the season 70-61 in overtime in Saint Peter thanks to 12 points each from Alison Newton and Chelsey Guetter and 11 from Macy Kelly. Gustavus hung on for a 52-51 win later in the season in Claire Lynch, however, after holding CSB scoreless for the final two minutes of play.

The Storyline
CSB is undefeated at home this season, but has struggled on the road. Saint Benedict is 1-4 in road contests this season, and looks to pick up another big road win Saturday at Gustavus. CSB, which got off to a hot start to the 2016-17 season, also looks to stay near the top of the conference and knock the undefeated Gusties down a column in the MIAC standings. Gustavus, on the other hand, is looking to stay undefeated and make its way into the top 25 of the national Division III polls.
