ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict basketball team continues the MIAC season this Wednesday, Jan. 18, when it hosts Hamline University in Claire Lynch Hall. Game time is set for 7 p.m. as CSB battles to stay in third place in the MIAC standings.
About Hamline
Hamline is 5-10 overall and 2-6 in the MIAC heading into Wednesday's game. The Pipers' latest game was an 83-68 loss at Macalester Saturday afternoon. Reilly Geistfeld, Chloe Graves, and Alaina Quaranta all average double digits in scoring for the Pipers. Geistfield adds a team-high 7.2 rebounds per game, Graves is second in the league with 71 assists this year, and Quaranta is third in the MIAC with 36 steals. Hamline is coming off a 2015-16 season where it went 3-22 overall and 1-17 in the MIAC.
Last Season
CSB and Hamline faced off two times last season, and the Blazers won both of those contests. Saint Benedict won the first matchup of the season 65-46 in St. Joseph.
Kate Banovetz led the team with 10 points and seven rebounds in the win. CSB won 60-57 in overtime later in the season in St. Paul. Niki Foken had 16 points and
Alison Newton 14 points in the Blazers' overtime thriller.
About CSB
Chelsey Guetter leads the team with 10.2 points and 7.7 rebounds per game and
Niki Fokken averages 8.9 points per game and 4.6 rebounds per game. Fokken is third in the MIAC with 20 blocks this season.
The Storyline
CSB is undefeated at home this season, and looks to pick up another home win Wednesday against Hamline. CSB, which got off to a hot start to the 2016-17 season, also looks to stay near the top of the conference and knock the Pipers down a column in the MIAC standings. Bethel and CSB are currently in a tie for third place in league standings. Looking ahead, CSB will be back on the road for another conference game Saturday, Jan. 21, when it travels to Carleton College at 1 p.m.
