ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict volleyball team is back at home one last time this week for another MIAC matchup. CSB takes on Augsburg at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 26 in St. Joseph. CSB heads into the match coming off of a 3-1 loss at Gustavus.
About the Auggies
Augsburg enters Wednesday's game with a record of 16-6 overall and 10-0 in the MIAC. The Auggies are coming into this game after a 3-1 win against St. Catherine. Taylor Linn leads the team with 234 kills, and Macey Terhell is fourth in the MIAC with 479 digs. Courtney Lemke leads the team with 538 assists.
Last Year
CSB beat Augsburg 3-2 on Oct. 28 in Minneapolis. CSB won the first, fourth, and fifth sets to get narrow victory. Four sets were decided by five points or less.
Megan Pekarek finished with a triple double. She had 50 assists, 13 digs, and 13 kills.
Meghan Koop had 33 digs for the Blazers and
Briana Schmiesing had 21 kills.
Who to Watch
Megan Pekarek leads the Blazers with 840 assists and is first in the MIAC with 9.88 assists per set.
Liz Schultz (223 kills) and
Briana Schmiesing (222 kills) lead the Blazers on attack.
Haley LaValle leads the team with 380 digs, followed by
Meghan Koop with 309 digs.
Liz Schultz and
Lauren Mathews both have at least 60 total blocks this season.
The Storyline
CSB is looking to improve its 5-4 MIAC record in an important conference matchup this Wednesday against an Augsburg team that have proven to be tough competition this year. The Auggies clinched at least a share of the MIAC regular season championship last week, and is undefeated in conference play with just this game left on its conference schedule. Saint Benedict is currently fifth in the MIAC standings with two conference games left to play. The top six teams make the conference tournament, which starts Tuesday, Nov. 1.
