DULUTH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict volleyball team picked up its second sweep in as many games Saturday afternoon when it beat St. Scholastica 3-0 in Duluth, Minn.
The sweep comes one night after beating UW-Superior 3-0, and pushed Saint Benedict's overall record to 11-10. Saturday's game also marked the end of nonconference play for CSB for the season. Saint Benedict has four MIAC games left in the regular season before the conference tournament begins on Nov. 1.
CSB beat the Saints 25-22, 25-19 and 26-24 Saturday afternoon. After winning the first two sets, St. Scholastica (9-13) threatened to force a fourth set, but
Briana Schmiesing had three kills in the final four points of the set to help Saint Benedict hold on for the win.
Schmiesing and
Liz Schultz both had 10 kills for CSB, which had 44 total kills.
Megan Pekarek added 38 assists, and
Haley LaValle led the team with 12 digs.
Meghan Koop added 10 digs and
Lauren Mathews finished with nine kills and six block assists.
CSB is on the road Friday and Saturday, Oct. 21-22, for a pair of MIAC matches against Carleton and Gustavus. Saint Benedict's last home game of the regular season is Oct. 26 against Augsburg.
