NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict volleyball team picked up its third straight win Friday night when it beat Carleton College 3-1 in Northfield, Minn.
CSB is now 12-10 overall and 5-3 in the MIAC with three matches left in the regular season. With the win, Saint Benedict moved into a tie for fourth with Saint Mary's.
Carleton (12-7, 3-5) won the first set 25-20, but CSB came back to win the next three 25-13, 25-19 and 25-20 Friday night. The first set was tied 13-13 after a Carleton service error, but the knights scored four straight points to go up 17-13, and CSB was never able to recover.
Saint Benedict bounced back quickly, however, and took early leads in each of the next three sets that it never gave up.
Meghan Koop finished with a match-high 15 kills to lead CSB, which had 52 total kills.
Briana Schmiesing added 11 kills and
Cami Hoover finished with nine.
Megan Pekarek had 43 assists, 10 digs and seven kills, and
Haley LaValle led the defense with 15 digs .Koop (12),
Ashley Trustheim (11) and
Emily Christian (10) also hit double-digit digs.
CSB is back in action on the road Saturday, Oct. 21, when it takes on Gustavus at 3 p.m. in St. Peter, Minn. The Gusties are currently in second in the MIAC with a 7-1 conference record.
