SUPERIOR, Wis. – The College of Saint Benedict volleyball team started its trip to the North Shore with a 3-0 sweep of UW-Superior Friday night in Superior, Wis.
CSB – which steps out of MIAC play for the weekend with a pair of nonconference matches – defeated the Yellowjackets 25-19, 25-16 and 25-21. The sweep comes two days after Saint Benedict fell 3-2 to Hamline.
Saint Benedict got off to a fast start Friday night as it jumped to a 12-5 lead thanks in part to four straight kills from
Liz Schultz. Superior got within five points several times, but was unable to catch CSB. Set two wasmore of the same as Saint Benedict was up 8-3 early, and led by 10, 15-5, midway through the set.
The Yellowjackets kept set three close, and tied the match at 19-19, but kills from
Megan Pekarek, Schultz and Koop helped extend the lead for good.
Schultz finished with a match-high 13 kills and Koop added 11. Pekarek had 37 assists and
Ashley Trustheim recorded a career-high 19 digs.
Haley LaValle added 14 digs and Koop finished with 12.
CSB wraps up it two-game road trip at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, when it takes on St. Scholastica in Duluth.
