NORTHFIELD, Minn. – It came down to the last event of the dual, but the College of Saint Benedict swimming and diving team picked up a win against Carleton in a MIAC dual Saturday afternoon in Northfield, Minn.

The two teams were tied heading into the 200 freestyle relay – the last event of the meet – to set up a winner-take-all situation, and the Blazers pulled through in the clutch. Kristina Rudin swam a season-best 50 freestyle to lead off the relay and joined Katie Heller, Jenna Humbert and Steph Bierman to finish in 1:41.24 – a season best – to win the event, and help CSB win the meet.

Alexandra Benham, Emma Ridgeway, Kenzie Young and Jessica Thurin came in third in the relay in 1:46.44.

Bierman finished the day with three individual wins, Carissa Gaffy-Sanford and Ashley Groebner each added two and Young and Ridgeway won one event to help the Blazers beat the Knights. Ridgeway and Jenna Humbert finished first and second, respectively, in the 200 backstroke in another key race to help the Blazers win. The Knights pulled their best swimmer from the event to pick up a win elsewhere, and Ridgway and Humbert stepped up with Ridgway winning the race in 2:18.58 and Humbert taking second in 2:18.74. Both times are season bests.

Bierman won the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle races to lead the Blazers. She won the 50 in 25.07 seconds, the 100 in 54.72 seconds and the 200 in 2:00.29. Rudin took second in the 200 in 2:03.28 and third in the 100 in 56.99 seconds. Groebner won the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.18 and the 200 in 2:37.76.

Gaffy-Sanford won both of the diving competitions. She took the one-meter competition with a score of 205.20, and later won the three-meter competition with a score of 224.80.

Young won the 1,650 freestyle in 18:49.59. Teammates Amy Nemanich (19:46.40) and Haley Chatelaine (19:55.74) finished second and third, respectively. Young also took second in both the 500 freestyle (5:31.41) and 200 individual medley (2:21.28).

Ridgeway, Groebner, Thurin and Heller teamed up to win the first event of the day – the 200 medley relay. They finished in a season-best 1:53.68.

Ridgeway also finished third in the 100 backstroke in 1:03.95 and Thurin took second in the 100 butterfly in 1:05.30.
