Young, Gaffy-Sanford, 200 freestyle relay pick up wins for CSB

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict swimming and diving team picked up three wins in a nonconference dual against MSU-Moorhead Friday night.
 
Moorhead won 196-105, but Kenzie Young, Carissa Gaffy-Sanford and the Blazers' 200 freestyle relay team all picked up wins for CSB at the Warner Palestra Pool on the SJU campus.
 
Young picked up CSB's first win of the night in the 1,000 freestyle in 11:18.22. Teammate Haley Chatelaine finished fifth in 11:53.24. Gaffy-Sanford won the three-meter diving competition with a score of 226.1, and first year Brianna Lovato finished third with a mark of 172.3.
 
CSB's 200 freestyle relay team of Elizabeth Moline, Kristina Rudin, Katie Heller and Steph Bierman ended the night with a win in 1:41.89. Jessica Thurin, Chatelaine, Meghan Harder and Jenna Humbert took third in the relay in 1:45.52.
 
Young also finished second in the 500 free in 5:32.41 and fourth in the 200 individual medley in 2:22.31. Bierman took third in the 500 free in 5:33.43. Gaffy-Sanford took second in the one-meter diving competition with a score of 209.05. Lovato took third with a score of 171.8 and Susie Xiong finished fifth with a mark of 120.8.
 
Bierman also finished the night with a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle in 2:01.81. Rudin took third in 2:05.84. Rudin took second in the 50 free in 25.90 seconds and Heller finished fifth in 26.02 seconds. Moline finished second in the 100 free (55.78), Bierman took third (55.86) and Heller finished fifth (57.20).
 
Moline finished third in both the 100 and 200 butterfly races. She finished the 100 in 1:03.01 and the 200 in 2:24.33. Thurin took fourth in the 100 fly in 1:04.47 and fourth in the 200 in 2:30.42.
 
Emma Ridgeway finished second in the 100 backstroke in 1:04.61. Humert took third (1:04.83) and Grace Livermore finished fifth (1:06.02). Humbert took third in the 200 back (2:21.24) and Ridgeway took fifth (2:24.67). Ashley Groebner finished fourth in both the 100 breaststroke (1:11.82) and the 200 breaststroke (2:44.3), and Grace Hesse took fifth in the 100 breaststroke (1:16.29).
 
Ridgeway, Groebner, Thurin and Heller took third in the 200 medley relay in 1:55.51. Humbert, Kaylee O'Connell, Emily Schwen and Harder took fifth in 2:01.15
 
The Blazers are back at home twice next week as they host St. Kate's on Friday, Nov. 20, and St. Thomas Saturday, Nov. 21. Both meets are on the SJU campus.
