CSB swim and dive hosts MSU-Moorhead Friday

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict swimming and diving team competes at home for the first time this Friday, Nov. 13, when it hosts MSU-Moorhead.

Friday's dual – the first of three straight dual meets for the Blazers – starts at 5 p.m. at the Warner Palestra Pool on the SJU campus.

CSB heads into its first dual of the year coming off a first-place finish at the six-team Hamline Invite Saturday. Kenzie Young and Carissa Gaffy-Sanford each won two events for CSB, and Steph Bierman and Ashley Groebner each added an individual win for the Blazers, who recorded 31 top-five finishes. Groebner and Bierman also teamed with Jenna Humbert and Elizabeth Moline to win the 200 medley relay.

First year diver Brianna Lovato finished third in the three-meter diving competition Saturday with a score of 187.35, the fifth-best score in school history. Groebner was named CSB and MIAC Athlete of the Week after winning two events and swimming a lifetime best in the 50 breaststroke and finishing 0.2 seconds off her lifetime best in the 100 breaststroke. Senior Haley Chatelaine also picked up three top-five finishes for CSB Saturday.

Moorhead, an NCAA Division II program, is 5-4 with nine duals and a triangular under its belt this season. The Dragons have three wins against Northern State and a win against St. Kate's and Concordia. First year Taylor Beynon earned conference swimmer of the week honors once and senior Emily Pascavis has two conference diver of the week honors to her name so far this season.

The Blazers and Dragons competed in a nonconference dual last season in Moorhead, Minn., and MSU-Moorhead came away with a 200.5-98.5 win over CSB. Young and Bierman each picked up two wins, and the two teamed with Meghan Harder and Jessica Thurin to take second in the 400 freestyle relay.

After Friday's dual, the Blazers are back at home Friday and Saturday, Nov. 20-21. CSB hosts St. Kate's Friday night and St. Thomas Saturday afternoon. Saturday's St. Thomas dual will be in conjunction with the Saint John's and St. Thomas men's dual.
