ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict volleyball team wrapped up its regular-season home schedule with a 3-0 sweep of Hamline Wednesday night.
The Blazers celebrated senior night with 25-12, 25-13 and 25-17 wins over the Pipers to push their record to 19-8 overall and 8-2 in the MIAC. CSB, which has already secured a spot in the postseason tournament, is in third in the conference behind St. Thomas and Augsburg. The Tommies lead the conference race with a 9-1 mark and the Auggies are second at 8-2. The Blazers are ahead of Bethel, which is in fourth with a 7-3 record. St. Thomas, Augsburg, CSB and the Royals have all secured playoff spots.
No. 23 Saint Benedict and Hamline played a close first set until
Laura Schmitt served six straight points to put the Blazers up 14-9.
Kelly Davenport served four more points to make it 19-11, and a strong Blazer offense pulled away for the 25-12 win.
Taya Kockelman served the first 10 points of the second set to push the Blazers out to a 10-0 lead before the Pipers (12-10, 4-6) scored their first point of the set. The Blazers were able to capitalize on Hamline errors to hold the Pipers to 13 points in the second set.
The final set was the closest of the three, but timely kills from
Sophie Stangl and
Callie Neumann kept the Blazers on top throughout the match.
Stangl finished with 10 kills to pace the Blazer offense, which had 37 kills to Hamline's 22. Schmitt and
Lexi Rinde both added six kills and
Bailey Rykken finished with five. Kockelman had 28 assists and
Victoria Nass paced the defense with 16 digs. Schmitt added 12 digs and Kockelman finished with 11.

The Blazers' seven seniors were honored following CSB's win. Wednesday marked the final regular-season home game at Claire Lynch for Kockelman, Stangl, Rinde, Nass, Rykken, Neumann and
Kelly Davenport.
