Blazer volleyball defeats Concordia

MOORHEAD, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict volleyball team ended the regular season with a 3-1 victory over Concordia College Saturday afternoon in Moorhead, Minn.
 
CSB's win, coupled with wins by Augsburg and St. Thomas, puts the Blazers in third place heading into the MIAC postseason tournament. Official seedings and pairings will be released Saturday evening by the MIAC office.
 
Concordia (12-12, 5-6) won the first set of Saturday afternoon's match 25-19, but the Blazers came back to win the next three 25-20, 25-19 and 25-19 to finish the regular season 20-8 overall and 9-2 in the MIAC. This marks the third straight season Saint Benedict has reached the 20-win mark.'
 
Senior Sophie Stangl led the Blazer offense with 15 kills Saturday. CSB finished with 59 kills to the Cobbers' 50. Lexi Rinde added 13 kills and Laura Schmitt finished with 11. Taya Kockelman had 50 assists, and Victoria Nass led the defense with 26 digs. Schmitt added 19 digs, Gabi Narvaez chipped in with 13 and Kelly Davenport finished with 12.
 
Olivia Wangensteen led all hitters with 16 kills for the Cobbers and Kynndyl Ross added 11. Mandy Merci lhad 28 assists and 10 digs and Korbyn Ross finished with 21 digs. Alysa Schmidt added 20 digs for Concordia.
 
The Blazers are on a six-game winning streak heading into the MIAC tournament, which starts with quarterfinal matches Tuesday, Nov. 4. The semifinals are Thursday, Nov. 6 and the championship match will be played at the highest remaining seed Saturday, Nov. 8. The top two seeds get byes in Tuesday's first round.
