Live StatsST. PETER, Minn. – After sweeping St. Olaf College 3-0 Friday night in Northfield, the College of Saint Benedict volleyball team is back in action and trying to keep its MIAC momentum alive Saturday, Oct. 25, when it takes on Gustavus Adolphus. The Blazers and the Gusties take the court at 3 p.m. in St. Peter, Minn.
About the Gusties: Gustavus enters Saturday's matchup with an 11-11 overall record and a 5-3 mark in the MIAC. The Gusties are currently in a three-way tie for fourth with Bethel and Saint Mary's. Gustavus enters the match on a two-game winning streak and has won four of its last five matches. Alyssa Taylor leads the Gusties with 241 kills, and Becca Woodstra, Taylor Trautman, Sammy Kremer and Kelle Nett each have at least 120 kills to their name. Marisa Morgan has 697 assists and Abby Leitch leads the defense with 289 digs.
Last Meeting: The Blazers swept Gustavus 3-0 when the two teams met in St. Joseph, Minn., in 2013. Saint Benedict won 25-20, 25-20 and 25-15.
Lexi Rinde had 13 kills and
Mary Franz finished with 10 last year to help CSB improve to 21-2 overall.
Taya Kockelman had 37 assists and
Victoria Nass paced the defense with 15 digs. The win last year was the seventh straight for CSB and part of a 12-match win streak.
The Storyline: Saint Benedict is alone in third and one game ahead of Gustavus, Bethel and Saint Mary's heading into today's match. The Blazers have already beat Bethel and Saint Mary's, so a win today would leave them ahead of the pack that is tied for fourth. A win would also help keep the Blazers' momentum up as they head into the final stretch of the regular season.
Who to Watch: The Blazers used a balanced offensive attack in a 3-0 sweep of St. Olaf Friday night as
Laura Schmitt,
Sophie Stangl and
Mary Franz all had eight kills and
Lexi Rinde finished with seven. Schmitt leads the team with 280 kills, Rinde has 228 and Stangl is just shy of 200 with 196. Kockelman leads the MIAC with 11.09 assists per set and she is also at the top of the conference with a .382 hitting percentage. She has 134 kills this season.
