Trinity Box ScoreEAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The College of Saint Benedict volleyball team wrapped up nonconference play with a pair of sweeps Saturday at UW-Eau Claire Invite in Eau Claire, Wis.
The Blazers, ranked No. 22 in Division III, improved to 16-8 overall with 3-0 wins over Minnesota-Morris and No. 15 Trinity University (Texas). CSB has four games left on its regular-season schedule following this weekend's tournament.
Saturday afternoon, the Blazers picked up their biggest win of the tournament when they beat 15
th-ranked Trinity. Saint Benedict won 25-22, 25-22 and 25-21.
Laura Schmitt finished with 12 kills to pace the Blazer offense and
Lexi Rinde added 11.
Taya Kockelman finished with 38 assists and
Victoria Nass led the defense with 16 digs. Schmitt also had 12 digs and
Gabi Narvaez finished with nine.
The Blazers started day two of the Eau Claire Invite with a 3-0 sweep of Minnesota-Morris. Saint Benedict bounced back from a 3-2 loss to UW-Oshkosh Friday night and defeated Morris 25-12, 25-14, 25-15.
Schmitt finished with a match-high 10 kills for the Blazers, and
Sophie Stangl and Rinde each added seven. CSB had 40 total kills to Morris' 23. Kockelman finished with 33 assists and Nass and Narvaez each had nine digs. Schmitt also added eight digs.
This weekend's tournament wraps up nonconference play for the Blazers, who have four games remaining on their regular-season schedule. Saint Benedict plays St. Olaf Friday, Oct. 24, in Northfield, Minn., and Gustavus Saturday, Oct. 25, in St. Peter. CSB's last regular-season home game is Wednesday, Oct. 29, when it hosts Hamline at 7 p.m. That game is also senior night for CSB.
