St. Cloud, Minn. – After tying earlier in the season, the Saint Benedict hockey team came up short tonight (Jan. 18) against the Concordia College Cobbers by a score of 4-0.

The game served as the first MIAC action since December for both teams, with CSB suffering their shutout since Feb. 4, 2012. The Blazer's record drops to 4-4-3 overall and 2-4-1 in the MIAC, while the Cobbers improve to 5-5-3, and 4-2-1 in league play.

| Blazers Ready To Bounce Back |

The Blazers started out strong in the first period, holding an 8-to-6 lead in shots, but ended up down 1-0 by the end of the first 20 minutes. Jenna Westerham gave the Cobber's the early lead with the first goal less than seven minutes in, taking an assist from Libby Fransdal. Blazer goalie Jenna Traut finished the first period with five saves while the Cobber's Madison Denny stopped all eight shots she saw.

Saint Benedict racked up 10 shots in the second period, but the Cobbers countered with 15. Traut stopped 13 of them as the Blazers fell down with a score of 3-0, after goals by both Madison Gendreau (2:13) and Kelsey Vandegrift (12:13), with assists from Abby Taffe and Breann Julious respectively.

The Blazer's fought hard again in the third period and kept the period scoreless until the 16:32 mark, where the Cobbers went up 4-0. Although, their defense had a great third period, the offense came up empty, unable to put a shot on net.

The Cobbers took another 15 shots in the period, with the last goal coming from Bekah Wright off of Fransdal's second assist. Traut gathered 14 saves in the third, finishing with her second best night of the season, stopping 32 shots in all.

Concordia, who now ends its three-game losing streak, put up a season high four goals in the win. Team points and scoring leader, Julious, added to her lead with another assist tonight.

The Cobber defense stayed tough all night as Megan Lawry and Megan Brettingen led the Blazers with just three shots each. Gendreau led the Cobbers with eight.  The Blazer's 18 shots are the fewest they've had all year, while the Cobber's 36 shots are the most the Blazers have allowed.

The same two teams will meet again at the MAC tomorrow, as the Blazers look to split the series. The puck drops at 2 p.m.
