St. Cloud, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict hockey team (4-3-3) picked up a 2-1 victory over Concordia University of Wisconsin (2-10-2) tonight (Jan. 10) at the MAC.
Â
Saint Benedict entered tonight's matchup after having a six week break from playing games. The Blazers outshot the Falcons 9-to-7 in the first period, but the game remained scoreless after one. Both teams had their chances and were unable to capitalize on the power play.
Â
The tempo picked up in the second with Saint Benedict scoring first. Sophomore
Alli O'Brien picked up her third goal of the season midway through the second with the assist going to sophomore Allyson Nielson. First-year
Dory Johnson saw her first collegiate minutes in net, playing the second for Saint Benedict. Johnson was perfect between the pipes, stopping all 12 shots, many of which came from point blank in the slot.

Saint Benedict hit the ice ready to go in the third and extended its lead to two just five minutes in to the period. The goal again came from the stick of O'Brien with the assist going to sophomore
Megan Brettingen. This was the fifth straight game O'Brien has earned at least one point this season for the Blazers, as well as the first two goal game of her career.
Â
Concordia brought the game within one with just under six minutes left in regulation. Erin Grant scored the power play goal for the Falcons, picking up the rebound from junior
Kaitlyn Rolando's pad and one timing it in to the back of the net.
Â
The Blazers outshot Concordia and controlled the face off dots with 29 wins.
Â
Saint Benedict returns to action at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 18 when they host conference opponent Concordia College-Moorhead at the St. Cloud MAC.
