About Bethel: The Royals enter riding a five-game winning streak and a six-game unbeaten streak, having not lost since mid-september. Their last three wins have all come by shutout, outscoring their opponents 5-0 over the three games. Their only loss in conference play came in the MIAC opener, 1-0 to Augsburg, which was followed by a 1-1 tie at Hamline. Since, however, they have ripped off four straight to move to second in the MIAC standings. Last season, the Royals were 9-7-2 on the season, and just 4-6-1 in the MIAC to place ninth.
What's At Stake: The Blazers and Royals will be matching up with sole possession of second place in the
conference standings on the line. Bethel currently has a one-point lead in second, with CSB right behind in third. A win for the Blazers would mean three points, moving them two points ahead of the Royals. It also keeps CSB on pace with Concordia in the race for the 2012 MIAC Championship. As the season hits the stretch run, a top-two seed means at least one home game in the MIAC Playoffs.
Last Season: A year ago in Arden Hills, the two teams played into overtime before
Colleen Bouchard finally scored in the 95th minute to break the scoreless tie. The 1-0 Blazer win carried extra weight as it also moved them into first place in the MIAC standings, en route to the 2011 conference title.
Last Week: Last week, the Blazers broke out of their midseason losing skid in a big way, scoring a combined five goals in an important pair of MIAC victories. It started on Oct. 3 when they scored a season high three in a 3-1 win over rival St. Thomas, and closed on Oct. 6 with a 2-1 win over an up-and-coming St. Catherine team.
What to Watch For: A balanced Blazer attack matches up with a Royal defense that has went over 180 minutes without allowing a goal. The Blazers found the net five times last week, and have gotten scoring from all over this season, with eight different players scoring at least once.
Head Coach Steve Kimble: Head coach
Steve Kimble enters his fourth year with the Blazers in 2012, after leading them to their first conference title since 2003. Kimble was named the MIAC Coach of the Year and was also named Regional Coach of the Year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). In each of his three seasons, the Blazers have posted double-digit wins, as well as a winning record in MIAC play. His overall mark as CSB stands at 34-21-5 and 21-10-2 in the conference.
