The College of Saint Benedict blazer volleyball team (2-2 overall, 0-0 MIAC) finished 2-2 this weekend at the Eau Claire Tournament in Eau Claire, WI.

Saint Benedict started the tournament by dropping their first two games on Friday. The Blazers went up against #11 Carthage College in the first game. CSB lost a 0-3 match with scores of 20-25, 22-25, and 23-25. First-year setter Taya Kockelman (Minneota, MN, Minneota) led the Blazers on the attack with 10 kills.

The Blazers next game was against MIAC opponent Concordia College. The Cobbers defeated the Blazers 1-3 with scores of 18-25, 17-25, 25-23, and 23-25. Senior outside hitter Chelsie Sobieck (Wyoming, MN, Forrest Lake) led the Blazers with 19 kills while sophomore libero Chelsea Rachel (Maple Lake, MN, Maple Lake) compiled 30 digs.After the match head coach Nicole Hess said, “We played two talented veteran teams today and for the most part held our own. We learned a lot about ourselves and what kind of a team we will be this season. I'm looking forward to getting back in the gym today to see how we respond.”

Saint Benedict hit the court running on day two and defeated Eau Claire 3-1 in their first game of the day. The Blazers won the close fought match with games of 25-20, 26-24, 25-20, and 25-23. Rachel compiled 19 digs while sophomore middle blocker Kendra Coleman (Pelican Rapids,MN, Pelican Rapids) had 13 kills on 22 attempts.

The Blazer entered their last game of the tournament against Lawrence University with a win set in their sights. CSB defeated Lawrence 3-0 with scores of 25-15, 25-20, and 25-19. Sophomore outside hitter Lexi Alm (Stacy, MN, Forest Lake) led the Blazers on the attack with 11 kills.

Saint Benedict returns to action on Wednesday, September 7th, at 7 pm in St. Paul, MN to take on Northwestern College.
