BOX SCORE
Hosting Saint Catherine University in their final home game of the 2010-2011 season, the College of Saint Benedict lost 6-2 to the Wildcats tonight at the Municipal Athletic Complex in Saint Cloud, Minnesota.
Saint Catherine was able to gain a comfortable lead scoring three goals in the first period and backing the Blazers into a corner they were unable to come out of. Blazer sophomore forward
Ashley Olson's (Fairmont, MN, Fairmont High School)goal early in the third period cut the deficit to two goals, but that was as close as the Blazers got. Junior forward
Amie Ernst (North Mankato, MN, Mankato Loyola) also scored for Saint Benedict with just over a minute left in the third period. Ernst was assisted by senior defender
Gretchen Leyendecker (Rochester, MN, Lourdes) and sophomore forward
Linnea Chruscielski (Duluth, MN, Duluth East).
We gave them three goals in the first and relied on the emotion of senior night to carry us and it really wasn't there,” said head coach Pat Michaud. “However, I'm proud of the way they responded in the second period.”
Senior goalie
Abbie Helminen (Brighton, MI, Brighton (Belle Tire)) started in net for the Blazers, compiling 29 saves. Ernst recorded a team high nine shots on goal during the night.
Saint Benedict plays their last game of the season away tomorrow, at 2 pm, against Saint Catherine.
