Blazer Volleyball Falls 3-2 to Cobbers

The College of Saint Benedict Blazer volleyball team (17-11 overall, 8-3 MIAC) suffered a 3-2 loss to #9 Concordia College (23-2, 10-1 MIAC) Saturday afternoon in St. Joseph, Minn. to finish regular season play.

Saint Benedict took a 1-0 lead with a 25-23 back and forth first set win over the Cobbers. Concordia won the second set 25-12 to tie the match at one a piece. The Blazers held the Cobbers to a .083 kill percentage as they took the third set 25-21. Concordia won the fourth set 25-20 to tie the match at two all and forced a fifth set.  The Blazers fell 15-7 in the fifth set as Concordia secured the win. Saint Benedict earned 61 kills and 87 digs, as well as 12 block assists in this afternoon's match.

Leading the Blazers on the attack in today's match was senior outside hitter Chelsie Sobieck (Wyoming, MN, Forest Lake). Sobieck earned a double-double with 19 kills and 16 digs. First-year right side hitter Alexa Rinde (Minnetonka, MN, Orono) notched 18 kills with a .217 kill percentage. Also earning a double-double in today's match was sophomore outside hitter Lexi Alm (Stacy, MN, Forest Lake). Alm had 12 kills and 18 digs. First-year setter Taya Kockelman (Minneota, MN, Minneota) generated 43 set assists. Sophomore libero Chelsea Rachel (Maple Lake, MN, Maple Lake) produced 21 digs in today's match.

Saint Benedict begins MIAC post season play at 7 pm on Tuesday, November 1st, as they host Gustavus (20-9 overall, 7-4 MIAC) in St. Joseph, Minn.
