Volleyball Remains Undefeated in MIAC

The College of Saint Benedict volleyball team (13-4 overall, 3-0 MIAC) defeated Augsburg College in four sets tonight to remain undefeated in the MIAC play.

The Auggies started the night with an 11-5 run over the Blazers, who eventually brought the score back within one at a 15-14 Augsburg lead.  CSB soon tied the score at 19 as each team put up a fight to win, exchanging point for point, until the Auggies edged the Blazers 27-25.

The second set began tied at five.  Soon the score was 13-10, Blazers leading and pulling away on a 4-0 run.  Though the Auggies kept the score within four at 24-20 in the end, they couldn't edge CSB, who won the next point and the set 25-20.

With the match score tied at one, CSB took control, picking up a quick 10-4 lead in the third set.  The Blazers maintained their distance from the Auggies, winning 25-15.

The final set started with another tied score at 10 points a piece, and another tied score at 13 and 14.  Although Augsurg jumped ahead 19-16, the Blazers tied the score at 22 and scored three consecutive points to win the set 25-22 and the match 3-1.

The Blazers were led by senior outside hitter Emma Jaynes (Hibbing, MN, Hibbing), who had 15 kills and 8 digs.  Junior right side hitter Kayli Schumacher (East Grand Forks, MN, Sacred Heart) also contributed 11 kills toward the win.  Junior middle hitter Calleigh Brown (Buffalo, MN, Buffalo) had nine kills and seven blocks for CSB, while senior setter Beth Hanson (Faribault, MN, Bethlehem Academy) picked up 38 assists.

CSB travels to Dubuque, IA this weekend for the Battle of the Border Tournament beginning Fri., Oct. 2, where they play Loras College at 2 p.m. and Central College at 6 p.m.
