The College of Saint Benedict volleyball team (24-5 overall, 10-1 MIAC) swept Concordia-Moorhead 3-0 this afternoon in Claire Lynch Hall to claim the MIAC Regular Season Championship Title, the first for the Blazers since 1998.
The Blazers jumped to a quick 10-2 lead over the Cobbers in the first set. CSB managed 10-7 and 5-1 consecutive runs over Concordia, maintaining a team hitting percentage of .343 to win 25-10.
The second set proved to be a slight struggle for the Blazers as each team exchanged point for point until the score was tied at nine. As this point, CSB began to inch forward, picking up 16-11 and 20-15 leads over Concordia, eventually winning 25-20.
CSB controlled the final set, pulling ahead 9-3 from the start. The Blazers kept pushing forward, eventually picking up the win 25-13.
The Blazers were led by junior middle hitter
Calleigh Brown (Buffalo, MN, Buffalo), who had 14 kills. Senior outside hitter
Emma Jaynes (Hibbing, MN, Hibbing) also picked up seven kills and 12 digs for CSB, while senior setter
Beth Hanson (Faribault, MN, Bethlehem Academy) contributed 31 assists toward the win.
This win secure the first place slot in the MIAC playoffs for the Blazers, who will host the second round of playoffs on Thurs., Nov. 5 at 7 p.m., opponent to be determined.
