09/27/2008

The College of Saint Benedict golf team sent the crowd home happy this afternoon beating local rival Saint Cloud State in their final tune up for next week's MIAC championships. With fellow Blazer athletes there to cheer the golfers on, the Blazers did not disappoint shooting a team score 338 for an eight stroke win over SCSU at Blackberry Ridge in Sartell, Mn.

First-year Kathryn Hauff (Fargo, ND, Shanley) took home medalist honors using a one over par front nine on her way to shooting a scorching 79. Senior Ann Dressen (Alexandria, MN, Jefferson) found her groove on the back nine, firing a 39 propelling her to a final round 82 and a tie for second place. Junior April Damman (Glencoe, MN, Glencoe-Silver Lake) was solid all day off the tee, helping the Blazers score by shooting an 88. Senior Leigh Bartholomew (Lake Elmo, MN, Stillwater Area) made her clutch putts and broke 90, shooting an 89. Sophomore Sarah Hupperts (North Oaks, MN, Mounds View) rounded out the Blazers scores with a 96.

Next weekend the golf team puts it all on the line at the MIAC Championships in Coon Rapids against rivals Gustavus, Saint Thomas, and Carleton. Go Blazers!
