ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – Heading into this past week, Claire Haddick only had one decision to her name in eight appearances on the mound for the College of Saint Benedict softball team, and no wins. This past week, Haddick changed that.

Haddick, a first-year pitcher for the Blazers, picked up the first win of her college career, and then added two more to her record for good measure in five appearances last week. She went 3-1 and helped CSB finish the week 5-3 in eight MIAC contests. For her week, Haddick has been named the CSB Athlete of the Week.

Haddick’s week started in CSB’s first game at Augsburg Thursday, April 14. She came in in the bottom of the fifth inning with the score tied 4-4, and she threw three scoreless innings with four strikeouts as her teammates scored four more runs to earn the first win of her Blazer career.

A short time later, Haddick was back at it again in the second game of CSB’s doubleheader with Augsburg. She threw the first four innings of the 12-1, six-inning win, and gave up a single run on three hits with one strikeout to improve to 2-1. Haddick didn’t stop there, however. In her next appearance in the second game against St. Olaf on April 16, she threw the first four innings of a 9-0, five inning win against the Oles and gave up a single hit to get off to a 3-0 start on the week.

Haddick also made appearances in both games against Bethel on April 17. She threw the final two-thirds of an inning and gave up no hits in CSB’s 5-4 loss in the first game, and threw the first complete game of her career in game two of the doubleheader, a 3-0 loss to the Royals. She gave up three runs on 10 hits.

Haddick is now 3-2 in 13 appearances and 38 innings pitched. She has given up 16 runs on 39 hits and has 23 strikeouts to her name, and owns a 3.08 ERA.

Haddick and the Blazers are back in action Wednesday, April 20, when they host Hamline at 3:30 p.m. at the CSB softball fields. CSB is on the road at Macalester Saturday and hosts St. Thomas Sunday, April 24.
