ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – Manon Gammon-Deering is a leader for the College of Saint Benedict cross country team.
Gammon-Deering has been the Blazers’ top finisher in each race so far this season, and Saturday afternoon was no different. For the sixth time this season, Gammon-Deering Saint Benedict, finishing 10
th at the Tori Neubauer Invite in Ettrick, Wis. That finish helped propel the Blazers to a third-place team finish, and was also one of the best 6K times in school history.
For her performance Saturday, Gammon-Deering has been named the Blazer Athlete of the Week. This marks the second weekly honor of the season for the senior from Little Falls, Minn.
Gammon-Deering finished 10
th out of 453 runners Saturday afternoon. She was the top finisher for the Blazers, who finished with five runners in the top 50 and finished third out of 30 teams at the meet, which featured teams from throughout the NCAA.
Not only was Gammon-Deering’s time of 22:17 good for 10
th at the race, it also marked her personal best time, and the second-fastest time in Blazer cross country history. Leah Wurm currently holds the school record of 22:07, which she set in 2005. Heading into the 2014 season, Gammon-Deering’s fastest 6K time was 23:12, good for 10
th in school history.
Gammon-Deering and the Blazers have finished in the top four at each race they have entered in 2014, including two wins and one runner-up finish. Up next for the Blazers is the MIAC meet, which is Saturday, Nov. 1, at Como Park in St. Paul, Minn.
