Annika Brodt earns CSB Athlete of the Week honors

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – Annika Brodt is having a standout sophomore season for the College of Saint Benedict hockey team, and one of the biggest games of her career helped her team pick up one of its biggest wins of the season – and the last several years.

Brodt scored a pair of goals Saturday to help CSB upset St. Thomas, which was receiving votes in Division III at the time. For recording the second multi-goal game of her career in a key win that marked a milestone victory for the Bennies, Brodt is this week’s CSB Athlete of the Week.

Brodt was busy both days of the UST/CSB series. In Friday’s close 2-1 loss to the Tommies in St. Paul, Brodt notched an assist on Mollie Wise’s goal to help get the Bennies within one after going down 2-0 in the first period. The assist marked Brodt’s 12th of the season.

Saturday was Brodt’s standout game of the weekend. The sophomore got CSB on the board less than a minute into the second period when she took a pass right in front of the UST net and was able to shovel the puck past their goalie. Her second goal of the game came midway through the third period, and tied the game at 2-2 to set the Bennies up for a thrilling ending. Saturday’s game marked just the second multi-goal game of Brodt’s career, and her second this season.

After her three-point weekend, Brodt leads the Bennies and is eighth in the MIAC with 20 points. She is the first CSB hockey player to reach the 20-point milestone since 2016-17. She also leads the team and is tied for seventh in the MIAC with 12 assists – also the most for a Bennie hockey player since 2016-17.

Brodt’s big game Saturday helped CSB beat the Tommies for the first time since 2016, and just the fourth time in program history. The win also pushed the team’s overall record to 10-9-1 – the first time Saint Benedict has reached the 10-win milestone since 2001-02, and just the sixth time in program history the team has recorded 10 or more wins.

Brodt and her teammates have another big series coming up this weekend when they host fifth-ranked Gustavus at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, at the MAC in St. Cloud.
