Liz Schwartz MIAC 2019
ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – Liz Schwartz had her big breakthrough round earlier this fall for the College of Saint Benedict golf team, cracking the 70s for the first time in her collegiate career.

This weekend, she broke into the 70s twice, and was the team’s top finisher at the 2019 MIAC Championships. For her big weekend, Schwartz is this week’s CSB Athlete of the Week.

At the Division III Classic in September, Schwartz shot a 76 in the second round to mark the best round of her CSB golf career. Her previous career best to that point had been an 81. That score – the sixth-best in program history – helped her finished the two-round tournament with a career-best 18-hole score of 160.

At Pebble Creek in Becker over the three-round MIAC Championships, Schwartz cracked the 70s not once, but twice, to secure an 11th-place finish. She shot a 78 in Saturday’s first round and was in the top 10 of the individual standings, and followed that up with an 86 Sunday. Monday, Schwartz shot a 77 – the second-lowest round of her career – to finish with a three-round total of 241. That score is tied for the ninth-best 54-hole score in program history.

Schwartz’s 11th-place finish marked her second top-20 finish of the season and fourth of her career. It also marked her second MIAC Championship appearance – she competed at the tournament as a first year, and finished 31st with a three-round total of 262. Her low score for the weekend that year was an 86.

After the 2019 fall season, Schwartz has the second-lowest 18-hole round on the team with a 76, and is fourth on the team with an 84.2 stroke average. That is the lowest of her career by two full strokes. The conference championships wrapped up the fall season, so Schwartz and her teammates are off now until Spring 2020, starting with the team’s annual spring break trip to Arizona.
