Club Dance Team

COMMITMENT
Pre-Season

• CSB Club Dance Team:
  • Preseason Practices mid August on campus

School Year Practices and Events:
Dancers must schedule classes and jobs around practices, events and performances.

• Club Dance Team Practices: 
  • Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday 7-9 p.m. 
  • Friday field practices at SJU or CSB, 6-8 p.m. prior to game performances only
• SJU Football Games
• CSB Soccer Games
• SJU and CSB Basketball Games
• SJU and CSB Hockey Games
• Other events upon request
• ALL fundraiser events

FEES
Fees may fluctuate from year to year based on uniforms or other necessary expenses for the coming season. Fees will also fluctuate depending on whether the dancer is a rookie or a veteran dancer. Per the Dance Team Constitution, no refunds will be made at any time for any reason. In the event a dancer does not finish the season or is dismissed from the program, she will be required to reimburse the College of Saint Benedict for payments made on their behalf.

Due May 1st: $200-$600
Due Move in Day (Aug): $250-$275

CSB CLUB DANCE TEAM AND DANCE TEAM TRYOUTS (DATE TBD)
4:00-10 p.m.

• Attire: Black, fitted clothing, slicked back pony or bun
• Schedule
  • Arrive/Registration
  • Welcome meeting
  • Warm up/stretch
  • Review tryout routine, skills, and sideline
    • The routine will be a performance routine similar to ones during our football halftime
    • You will also learn one of our sideline routines
    • Skills:
      • Right, left, center splits
      • Right, left, center leaps (right & left)
      • Right, double turns
      • Toe touch
      • Firebird
      • OPTIONAL: Any other skills you feel would set you apart from other dancers (i.e. tumbling skills, flexibility skills, turn sequences, leaps, etc.) 
  • Tryout routine

In-person tryouts will take place at the Haehn Campus Center (located at #26 on the map).
Per the CSB Dance Team Constitution, all dancers must try out and receive a score to be on the club dance team. However, injuries may occur that prohibit an athlete from fully participating in tryouts. Please read the CSB Dance Team Injury Policy (PDF) outlining how those situations are managed.

BEFORE TRYOUTS
Please complete the:

• Intent to Tryout Form online
  • The Intent to Tryout Form will notify the dance team of your intent to try out for our team and will put you on the list to be sent the tryout routine in advance to tryouts. Please ensure all emails entered on this form are correct
  • Once the video is sent to you (Approximately by March 1st), be sure to practice them before coming to tryouts. This routine will be the only one you use to tryout
  • Here is the Intent to Tryout form
• CSB Dance Team Application 
  • The Dance Team Application will collect information that is vital to our season such as costume sizes, Hometown, Major, etc.
  • You will need the following to submit your application:
    • A headshot (does not have to be a professional photo)
    • Tryout videos (If trying out virtually)
  • There is also a non-refundable $25 tryout fee

HOUSING
If you are a prospective student that would like on-campus housing with a current Club Dance Team over tryouts, please indicate so on your Intent to Tryout Form.

VIRTUAL TRYOUTS
If you are unable to attend in-person tryouts, you may tryout virtually. 
Complete the Intent to Tryout form  to receive the link to the choreography all the tryout video.

• Learn the choreography and practice your skills. Find space to film your tryout video.
• Video tips:
  • Be sure your video is shot continuously. No cuts in your video. meaning that multiple videos cannot be cut together for each of the skills done. Videos that are cut together or edited together may result in a 0 score
  • Videos should NOT be uploaded as “Shorts” on YouTube. Videos should be full length uploads with the ability to pause, rewind, and rewatch. Any videos that are uploaded as shorts may result in a 0 score
  • Please state your name in your video and the year that you will be in school for the upcoming school year
  • We ask that dancers face the camera for all videos. If the dancer is in a space with mirrors, the video can be taken from the back as long as the dancer’s face is in the frame through out the video
  • Film the following Club Dance Team Skills:
    • Right, left, center splits
    • Right, left, center leaps (right & left)
    • Right, double turns
    • Toe touch
    • Firebird
    • OPTIONAL: Any other skills you feel would set you apart from other dancers (i.e. tumbling skills, flexibility skills, turn sequences, leaps, etc.) 
• Film the tryout routine
• You should have 2 videos to submit (Skills and Routine/Sideline)
  Once decisions are made, you will be contacted via email following tryouts.
