ST. JOSEPH, Minn. - After a season-opening win at home Tuesday night, Sept. 1, the College of Saint Benedict soccer team will make the trip to Iowa for a pair of road contests Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 5-6. CSB will take on Wartburg College Saturday, Sept. 5 at 6 p.m. before driving over to face Central College at 1 p.m. 

 

Saint Ben's most recently bested University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Tuesday night with a score of 3-1. The Bennies quickly cracked the scoreboard first, as first-year Lilly DeRosier (Baxter, Minn./Brainerd) booted a ball past the UWEC goalkeeper in the second minute of the game. The goal came off an assist by junior Gabby Fernholz (Rice, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice), the first of her career. Senior Rhianna Anya (Bloomington, Minn./Thomas Jefferson Sr.) logged the win in goal after making two saves over the first 45 minutes of action. Sophomore Anna Mollenhauer (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna) stopped a career-high seven saves across the last half of play. 

 

The first game of the season also saw sophomore Elly Prairie (Blaine, Minn./Spring Lake Park) total a career-best three points as she totaled one goal and an assist. Making her collegiate debut, first-year Mira Jackson (Roseville, Minn./Roseville Area) also notched an assist in the match.  

 

Saint Ben's will face Wartburg (0-0-1) for the 18th time with the record standing at 6-8-3. Most recently, CSB fell to the Knights, 2-1, Sept. 6, 2025. Now-senior Avery Soli (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) net the lone goal for the Bennies. Mollenhauer and Anya recorded five and seven saves, respectively, while splitting time in goal. Wartburg opened its season with a 1-1 tie against St. Olaf College Tuesday, Sept. 1.  

 

The Bennies will battle Central (1-0) for the fourth time, bringing in a 2-0-1 record. In the most recent matchup, CSB claimed a 1-nil win against the Dutch Sept. 8, 2024. Alli Voss scored the solo goal of the game, coming off an assist from Emma Young. Now-assistant coach Annie Waters logged the win in goal after making seven saves. CC opened its season with a 4-0 victory over Illinois College Tuesday, Sept. 5.
