ST. JOSEPH, Minn. -- Senior Mary Kenney (St. Paul, Minn.) of the College of Saint Benedict track and field team, who broke a school record and set a facility mark, has been named The House / St. Cloud Orthopedics CSB Athlete of the Week.

 

Kenney, a nursing major, delivered a standout performance at the MIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships by winning the 3,000-meter steeplechase in record-setting fashion. After placing third in the event a year ago, she crossed the finish line in 10:56.27 — the 28th-fastest time in NCAA Division III this season. 

Her winning time shattered the previous school record of 11:08.05, set by Jenna O'Donnell in 2014, while also establishing a new facility record at Klein Field at Manitou in Northfield, Minn. The performance earned Kenney her second career All-MIAC honor in the steeplechase.

Just two hours later, Kenney added an honorable mention All-MIAC finish in the 5,000 meters, placing fourth in 18:07.60. With the two performances, Kenney played a role in CSB's fifth place finish at the MIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

For her career, Kenney has recorded 23 top-four finishes, including six event titles, during her time with the Bennies track and field program.
