CSB Track and Field records 25 top-four finishes in winning CSB/SJU Invitational

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict outdoor track and field team closed out its home schedule in impressive fashion, winning the team title of the CSB/SJU Invitational with 206.5 points. The Bennies totaled four event titles, 12 top-two finishes and 25 top-four placings, while recording 38 top-eight finishes overall in the competition among nine teams held at Clemens Stadium.

Saint Benedict returns to action April 25 at the Rider/Bolstorff Invitational in St. Paul, Minn.

Field Events
Pole Vault
Senior Jaylyn Ahlberg (Shoreview, Minn.) won the event with a season-best 3.55m (11-7.75), a mark that ranks No. 44 in NCAA Division III. Junior Lili Raidt (Waconia, Minn.) placed second with a season-best 3.40m (11-1.75), while McKenna Flinn (Redwood Valley, Minn.) cleared a season-best 3.25m (10-8) to round out the group.

Shot Put
Sophomore Allison Banse (Mankato, Minn.) placed fourth with a personal-best outdoor throw of 12.61m (41-4.50), the second-best mark of her career and third in program-history outdoors.

Long Jump
The Bennies placed four in the top eight, led by first-year Morgan Hanlin (Red Wing, Minn.) in third (5.38m / 17-8). Juslene Chea (St. Michael, Minn.) was fourth (5.32m / 17-5.50), followed by junior Samantha Solheid (New Prague, Minn.) in sixth (5.07m / 16-7.75) and first-year Hannah Scharnberg (Fergus Falls, Minn.) in eighth (4.94m / 16-2.50).

Triple Jump
Chea highlighted the event with a runner-up finish and season-best mark of 10.93m (35-10.50). She was one of four Bennies in the top four, joined by sophomore Anna Gries (Minneapolis, Minn.), who posted a season-best 10.70m (35-1.25), and Scharnberg, who placed fourth with a personal-best 10.67m (35-0.25).

High Jump
Junior Drea Terwedo (LeSueur, Minn.) led CSB with a fourth-place finish, clearing 1.53m (5-0.25).

Javelin
Sophomore Parker Pollis (Richfield, Minn.) placed eighth with a throw of 32.09m (105-3).

Track Events
400-Meter Hurdles
Senior Lauren Berg (Bemidji, Minn.) captured one of the team's four titles with a season-best time of 1:03.10.

100-Meter Hurdles
Chea also placed second with a personal-best 15.16, a mark that ranks in the top 10 all-time in program history.

Sprints (100 / 200 / 400)
Junior Bella Lund (Mound, Minn.) placed fourth in the 100 meters (12.66) and added a seventh-place finish in the 200 meters with a personal-best 26.66.

In the 400 meters, junior Haley Zelen (Shakopee, Minn.) made her track debut for CSB and finished seventh in 1:00.27.

Distance Events
3,000-Meter Steeplechase
Junior Anabella Witschen (Monticello, Minn.) led five Bennies in the top seven with a personal-best 11:44.51. Junior Julia Babineau (Andover, Minn.) was second in a personal-best 11:52.58, followed by first-year Addisyn Giles (Belle Plaine, Minn.) in third (12:43.95). Sophomore Alyse Williamschen (Kasson-Mantorville, Minn.) placed sixth with a personal-best 13:48.47, and sophomore Katelyn Van Marel (Hutchinson, Minn.) was seventh with a season-best 14:46.90.

5,000 Meters
First-year Daphne Grobstein (Golden Valley, Minn.) won her first outdoor title, leading a 1-2 finish with a personal-best 18:40.36. First-year Ruby Gifford (Rockford, Minn.) placed second in a personal-best 20:04.44. The Bennies had four in the top five, including junior Emily Koch (Otsego, Minn.), who ran a personal-best 20:36.23, and senior Isabel Kraabel (Saint Paul, Minn.), who finished fifth in a season-best 21:39.54.

10,000 Meters
Senior Rachel Olinger (Rosemount, Minn.) recorded a personal-best 42:40.25 to place sixth, while junior Ayva Burshem (Maple Grove, Minn.) was seventh in 43:10.85.

1,500 Meters
Senior Mary Kenney (St. Paul, Minn.) placed second with a personal-best 4:47.32, improving her previous mark by six seconds and nearing a top-10 program mark. Junior Taylor Radaich (Prior Lake, Minn.) was fifth in 4:54.29.

800 Meters
The Bennies placed four in the top seven, led by Radaich in second (2:22.50). Kenney added a third-place finish with a personal-best 2:24.08, followed by first-year Taylor Dean (Hutchinson, Minn.) in fifth (2:25.00) and senior Natalie Zielsdorf (Arden Hills, Minn.) in seventh with a personal-best 2:28.83.

Relays
The 4x100-meter relay team of Grace Buntrock (Rochester, Minn.), Anna Gries (Minneapolis, Minn.), Myah Nelson (Brainerd, Minn.) and Bella Lund (Mound, Minn.) placed third in 49.74.
The 4x400-meter relay of Taylor Dean (Hutchinson, Minn.), Lauren Berg (Bemidji, Minn.), Haley Zelen (Shakopee, Minn.) and Anna Schottler (Chanhassen, Minn.) finished second in a season-best 4:04.71, a time that ranks No. 67 in NCAA Division III.

A second CSB 4x400 relay placed fourth in 4:18.37 with Tiffany Dean (Hutchinson, Minn.), Anabella Witschen (Monticello, Minn.), Brooke Verkinnes (Arden Hills, Minn.) and Macy Piechowski (Winona, Minn.).
