CSB Soccer falls to Wartburg, 2-1, in close nonconference battle

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. -- Junior forward Avery Soli scored just 23 seconds into the match, but the College of Saint Benedict soccer team (0-3) fell 2-1 to Wartburg (1-3) in a tightly contested nonconference game Saturday (Sept. 6) at the CSB Athletic Field.

Soli's goal, her first of the season and sixth of her career, was assisted by junior midfielder Summer Seamans and gave CSB an early 1-0 advantage. The Bennies held that lead through halftime, but Wartburg responded with two second- half goals from Nikayla Youngblut to secure the win.

Youngblut tied the match in the 50th minute, finishing into the right corner off a pass from Skyler Oldenburg. She later netted the game-winner off a corner kick in the 61st minute.

Wartburg held a 24-15 advantage in total shots and outshot CSB, 11-6, in the second half. The Knights also led 4-1 in corner kicks.

CSB's goalkeepers combined for 12 saves. Junior Rhianna Anya tallied seven in the first half, while first-year Anna Mollenhauser added five after the break.

Saint Benedict continues its home stretch on Sunday, hosting No. 4 Emory (2-0) at noon on the CSB Turf Field. It marks CSB's second matchup this season against a top four nationally ranked opponent.
