With a stirring fourth quarter rally, CSB Lacrosse defeats UW-LaCrosse, 15-13, in WIAC 3rd Place Game

 EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – With a stirring 6-1 rally in the fourth quarter, the No. 2 seed College of Saint Benedict lacrosse team (11-6) earned a 15-13 come-from-behind win over No. 4 seed UW-LaCrosse (10-7) in the third place game of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Playoffs, which culminated on Saturday, May 3 at Sonnentag Fieldhouse.

No. 1 seed Colorado College won the WIAC Championship with a 21-9 victory over No. 3 seed UW-Eau Claire, also on Saturday. In their first-ever WIAC Playoffs, CSB finished 1-1 and have a 3-3 postseason record overall. After the win today, the Bennies finish the season at 11-6 and had a 7-2 record in the WIAC for second place. 

The Eagles took a 6-4 lead in the opening quarter and, after both teams had three goals in the second, took a 9-7 lead to halftime. UW-LaCrosse outscored CSB, 3-2, in the third quarter before the Bennies dominated the fourth quarter with a 6-1 goal advantage in a memorable program comeback. First-year Merrill Delich's goal with seven minutes left gave CSB a 14-13 lead and then, Emma Nelson tallied the clincher with a minute left for the 15-13 advantage.

Leading the way for CSB was first-year attack Ava Mosley, who had four goals and extended her season total, becoming the second player in school history with 50 goals in a season (Sami Hackley, school record, 53, 2024). She registered her 12th multi-goal game of the season. In the playoffs, Mosley had 12 total goals, including eight in the semifinal setback to UW-Eau Claire (18-15), a mark that is a program-best playoff game record.

Aside from Mosley, junior Sami Hackley had her 33rd multi-goal game by tallying three goals and now has 41 goals this season and 131 in her career. She has a program-best 160 points with at least 37 goals (37, 2023; 53, 2024; and 41, 2025) in each of her three seasons with CSB. Delich added two goals, which was her fourth multi-goal game of the season. Izzy Bohlman provided two goals (31 on the season) for her ninth multi-goal game of 2025. Also scoring for CSB were Nelson, Lilly Fandel Thompson, Ella Steinke, and Lizzie Schrubbe, who added two assists and now has 68 in her career with 116 points (48 goals). Junior goaltender Chloe Lewis had 12 saves (136 on the season) and improved to 9-6 on the season. 

In a closely contested matchup, CSB had a 33-to-27 margin in shots, although the Eagles had a 22-to-21 edge in shots on goals. Both teams were successful on clears with CSB at 19-of-23 while UW-LaCrosse had 15-of-16 successes. Both teams converted 2-of-4 free-position shots while the Eagles had 18-to-13 margin draw controls and CSB had the 43-30 margin in ground balls.
