Game Preview -- CSB Lacrosse faces Augsburg in WIAC play Wednesday

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict lacrosse team (3-5, 1-2 WIAC), which is coming off a split in their home games last week, will head to Minneapolis, Minn., to face Augsburg (0-3, 0-1 WIAC) at Edor Nelson Field at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 7.

CSB, which holds a 3-5 overall record and a 1-2 mark in WIAC play, notched its first-ever WIAC win in program history with a thrilling 12-11 victory over UW-La Crosse. In that game, Ava Mosley, named St. Cloud Orthopedic Athlete of the Week, netted four goals, including the game-tying goal with 3:17 remaining. Mosley also assisted on Sami Hackley's eighth career game-winning goal. However, the Bennies fell to Northern Michigan, 15-4, on Sunday.

This week, CSB has a busy schedule with another road game against the Milwaukee School of Engineering on Sunday, April 12, followed by a home contest against UW-Eau Claire on Monday, April 13.

The Bennies' season highlights include a 17-4 victory over Edgewood College in Madison, Wis., and a 20-6 loss to No. 24 University of Chicago, where Mosley scored two goals. Hackley was a standout in the win over Edgewood with five goals, and both she and Mosley contributed five goals each in a 23-4 victory over Hamline. Hackley's performance in that game marked her 100th career goal, making her the first player in CSB history to achieve this milestone. In a 13-7 road loss to UW-River Falls, both Hackley and Izzy Bohlman scored two goals. The Bennies also suffered losses to Chapman University (21-9) and No. 19 Colorado College (17-4).

Augsburg (0-3, 0-1 WIAC) Overview
Augsburg, under first-year head coach Hemie Collier (Luther '07), is still seeking its first win of the season, having opened 0-3 overall and 0-1 in WIAC play. Augsburg has been outscored, 42-8, in its first three games. The Auggies own a 46.5 percent clearing rate (20-of-43), while opponents have cleared at 78.8 percent (26-of-33). Alyssa Paul leads the Auggies with three goals, and Isabella Kohout has two. In goal, Emma Meythaler has recorded 27 saves.

CSB leads the all-time series, 2-0. The most recent meeting was a 23-3 victory by CSB on April 12, 2024. The Bennies also defeated Augsburg, 19-10, on April 29, 2023.

  • Sami Hackley (Junior): Hackley has scored 18 goals and dished out eight assists (26 points), leading the team in both categories. With 108 career goals, she's the first player in CSB history to reach that level of goal scoring. Hackley has scored multiple goals in 16 of her last 19 games and has a career-high seven game-winning goals. She has eight games with five or more goals, including a program-record nine against Augsburg on April 12, 2024.
  • Ava Mosley (First Year): Mosley has scored 15 goals and added six assists for 21 points, ranking second on the team in both categories. She also has nine ground balls and five forced turnovers.
  • Hannah Kurowski (First Year): Kurowski has seven goals and six assists, accumulating 13 points.
  • Emma Nelson (Sophomore): Nelson has scored seven goals and provided five assists, adding 21 draw controls and 10 forced turnovers.
  • Lizzie Schrubbe (Sophomore): Schrubbe has four goals, four assists, and 10 ground balls in 2025. Last season, she set a CSB program record with 50 assists and 12 points in a single game.
  • Izzy Bohlman (First Year): Bohlman has contributed 14 goals and 16 ground balls, ranking third on the team in both categories.
  • Emma Osland (Senior): Osland has scored 50 career goals and has nine assists for 59 points. She has scored three goals this season.
  • Chloe Lewis (Goalkeeper): Lewis has made 66 saves in six appearances this season, and holds a 21-12-0 career record with 358 career saves.

Through eight games, CSB has scored 82 goals and registered 42 assists. The Bennies are averaging 27.0 shots per game and have totaled 164 ground balls, 96 forced turnovers, and 99 draw controls. The team has a 74.3 percent clear success rate while holding opponents to 72.4 percent. CSB has allowed 105 goals and 46 assists, with opponents averaging 28.0 shots per game.

Head Coach Patrick Crandall
In his third season at the helm, Patrick Crandall holds a 23-13 record and has led the Bennies to two Midwest Lacrosse Conference titles with an undefeated 12-0 conference record. This is CSB's first season in the WIAC under Crandall's leadership.
