Schrubbe, Hackley and Mosley lead CSB lacrosse to 18-7 win over UW-Stevens Point

Bennies record sixth straight win to move to 6-2 in the WIAC

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Sophomore Lizzie Schrubbe scored five points (three goals, two assists), Ava Mosley had four goals and Sami Hackley added three as the College of Saint Benedict lacrosse team (9-5, 6-2 WIAC) recorded its sixth win with a 18-7 home WIAC decision over UW-Stevens Point (2-14, 1-7 WIAC) on Friday (April 25) at CSB Outdoor Athletic Complex.

The victory enabled St. Benedict to retain third place in the WIAC standings with an opportunity to pull into a tie for second with UW-Eau Claire (7-2) with a win over Southwestern University at home on Saturday. The Bennies, which hosts Senior Day (Emma Osland, Emma Schrepfer) at 11 a.m., on Saturday, are trying to earn one of four playoff spots in the WIAC playoffs which begin on May 2.  

Schrubbe, who now has scored 10 total points in the past two games, had three goals and increased her season total to 14 with 25 total points (11 assists). Mosley led the way with four goals, extending her total to 36 goals and 49 points. She now has nine multi-goal games, including seven of the past eight games. And, Hackley added three goals as she now has 32 goals and 41 points this season. She now has 122 career goals and 31 multi goal games.

First-year Izzy Bohlman also had a multi-goal game and has 26 goals on the season. Also in the scoring column was Tess Cavanaugh, Merrill Delich, Emma Halweg, Hannah Kurowski and CSB's two seniors, Emma Osland and Emma Schrepfer.

In the net, junior Chloe Lewis continued her outstanding play in goal as she now has allowed seven or fewer goals in the six-game winning streak when CSB has a 109-to-27 goals edge over opponents. Lewis improved to 7-5 in the season and 26-12 in her career. She also dropped her goals allowed average to 9.85 on the season after allowing seven goals with eight saves tonight.
 
With Schrubbe scoring two early goals, the Bennies took an 8-1 lead after the first quarter. Then, CSB had a 3-1 margin in the second frame and 5-3 margin in the third quarter for a 16-5 lead. Both teams scored a pair of fourth quarter goals to round out the scoring.

CSB's control of the game was indicated by the overall statistics. St. Ben's held a 46-to-23 shots edge. In the first half when CSB built the big double-digit margin, CSB had a 28-to-11 margin.  Against the Pointers, CSB also had a 29-to-15 edge in ground balls and 18-to-10 advantage in draw controls. On clears, CSB was 19-of-21 while UW-Stevens Point finished 11-of-14.
