ST. PAUL, Minn. – With a stellar effort in goal from
Chloe Lewis and an explosive offense led by
Sami Hackley,
Ava Mosley,
Lizzie Schrubbe and
Merrill Delich, the College of Saint Benedict lacrosse team (8-5, 5-2 WIAC) recorded its fifth straight win with a 24-6 road WIAC decision over Hamline (6-8, 4-4 WIAC) on Wednesday (April 23) at Klas Field.
The victory enabled St. Benedict to take over third place in the WIAC standings with two league games left against UW-Stevens Point on Friday and Southwestern College on Saturday. The Bennies are trying to earn one of four playoff spots in the WIAC playoffs which begin on May 2. CSB's win also assured itself of a third straight winning season.
Hackley led CSB with four goals which gives her 29 goals on the year and 38 points, both second best on CSB. The junior standout has recorded multi-goals in 20 of her last 24 games, including nine times this year. She added four ground balls and caused four turnovers.
First-year attack
Ava Mosley continued to deliver on offense with three goals and three assists, as she has team-leading totals in goals (32), assists (13) and points (45). She now has eight multi-goal games, including six of the past seven games. First-year
Merrill Delich had a career-best five points on three goals and two assists while first-year
Izzy Bohlman had three goals and sophomore
Lizzie Schrubbe provided two goals and three assists. With those totals, Schrubbe now has 100 career points. Bohlman is third on CSB with 24 goals and has seven multi-goal games.
Twelve CSB players scored goals, including seven with multi-goal games. Sophomore

Kamryn Peterson had two goals each while first-year

Alex Weigel, junior
Ella Steinke and first-year
Hannah Kurowski all scored once. Weigel recorded her first career goal.
Lewis continued her outstanding play in goal as she now has allowed six or fewer goals in the five-game winning streak when CSB has a 91-to-20 goals edge over opponents. Lewis improved to 6-5 in the season and 25-12 in her career. She also dropped her goals allowed average to 10.08 on the season.
After Hamline and CSB traded goals early with the Pipers drawing even (4-4) early in the second period, the Bennies scored 19 of the next 20 goals for a 23-5 lead. Ahead 4-3 after the first quarter, the Bennies had a 10-2 edge in the second frame for a 14-5 lead at halftime. In the second half, CSB had a 10-to-1 edge, including 5-0 in the third quarter and 5-1 in the fourth frame.
CSB's control of the game was indicated by the overall statistics. St. Ben's held a 42-to-8 shots edge, including 29-to-5 with shots on goal. In the second half, the Bennies had an 18-to-2 shot margin (12-to-2 shots on goal). The Bennies forced 19 turnovers as Hamline had 29 for the game. In addition, St. Benedict was 10-of-11 on clears, held advantages in ground balls (29-to-10) and draw controls (21-to-11).
