Game Preview - On a four-game winning streak, CSB lacrosse travels to Hamline Wednesday

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict lacrosse team (7-5, 4-2 WIAC), which has won four-straight games, has a busy week ahead with three games, including two at home, to close the regular season. First- CSB faces a road test Hamline  on Wednesday (April 23) at 5 p.m., in St. Paul, Minn.

After facing Hamline, CSB returns home to UW-Stevens Point at 5 p.m., on Friday (April 25) and Southwestern College at 11 a.m., on Saturday (April 26).

Currently tied for third in the WIAC standings, the Bennies are hitting their stride. They earned their first-ever WIAC victory in a dramatic 12-11 win over UW-La Crosse on April 5, led by first-year standout Ava Mosley's four-goal performance, including the game-tying score in the final minutes. Mosley, named the St. Cloud Orthopedics Athlete of the Week, also assisted on Sami Hackley's eighth career game-winning goal.

After a tough 15-4 loss to Northern Michigan on April 6, CSB bounced back in a big way. They set a program record with a 25-0 WIAC win over Augsburg on April 9, followed by a 13-5 road nonconference win at Milwaukee School of Engineering. Most recently, the Bennies defeated UW-Eau Claire, 12-6, on April 14 in WIAC play, with Mosley and Emma Osland combining for seven goals and Chloe Lewis making 11 saves in net. The Bennies also had a 17-3 road win over UW-Stout in WIAC play. Ava Mosley had four goals and two assists in the win over UW-Stout.

Earlier this season, CSB had a 17-4 win over Edgewood and took losses against ranked opponents like No. 24 University of Chicago (20-6), No. 17 Colorado College (17-4), and Chapman (21-9).  

Scouting Hamline
Led by third-year head coach Adam Dobis, Hamline has opened the season at 6-7 with a 4-3 mark in the WIAC. As a team, Hamline has scored 129 goals and allowed 190. In terms of shots, the Pipers have averaged 24.2 while opponents sit at 32.9.  The Pipers have recorded 248 ground balls, 324 turnovers, 117 caused turnovers, 177 draw controls and a 57.6 clear percentage (129-of-224). Opponents have a 68.6 clear rate (166-of-242) with 186 draw controls and 169 caused turnovers. Reegan Zywicki leads Hamline with 35 points including 21 goals and 14 assists. Lauren Moorhouse has scored a team-high 22 goals with Avery Wilson at 20 goals and 15 assists.

Series Notes
 In the all-time series, the Bennies own a 5-0 advantage, including a 23-4 win on March 12, 2025, at home. CSB has a 3-0 mark at home and 2-0 on the road against the Pipers. In the first matchup on April 10, 2023, St. Ben's took a 14-7 win.

CSB Player Highlights
  • Sami Hackley (Junior): Hackley has scored 25 goals and dished out nine assists (34 points), ranking second on the team in both categories. With 115 career goals, she's the first player in CSB history to reach that level of goal scoring. Hackley has scored multiple goals in 19 of her last 23 games and has a career-high eight game-winning goals. She has eight games with five or more goals, including a program-record nine against Augsburg on April 12, 2024.
  • Ava Mosley (First Year): In wins over UW-Eau Claire (12-6) and UW-Stout (17-3), Mosley tallied four goals and added two assists against UW-Stout. She now has seven multi-goal games, including five of the past six games. She leads CSB with 29 goals and 35 points.
  • Hannah Kurowski (First Year): Kurowski has 10 goals and six assists, accumulating 16 points. She has three multi-goal games.
  • Emma Nelson (Sophomore): Nelson scored 12 goals and provided seven assists, adding a team-high 27 draw controls and 12 forced turnovers. She has three multi-goal games this year and 11 in her career. Nelson has totaled 34 goals and 14 assists with 48 points in her career.
  • Lizzie Schrubbe (Sophomore): Schrubbe scored nine goals, six assists, and 21 ground balls in 2025. Last season, she set a CSB program record with 50 assists and 12 points in a single game. She has 39 career goals and 56 assists for 95 points. Schrubbe has three multi-goal games this year and 12 in his career.
  • Izzy Bohlman (First Year): Bohlman contributed 21 goals and one assist for 22 points, ranking third on the team. She has 20 ground balls, ranking third on the team in both categories.
  • Emma Osland (Senior): Osland scored season-high three goals in the win over UW-Eau Claire and added one vs UW-Stout for seven this season and increased her career total to 54 and with 10 assists has 64 points.
  • Chloe Lewis (Goalkeeper): Lewis, who is 5-5 this season in net, has made 93 saves in 10 appearances this season, with 10.45 goals against average. In the last four games – all wins, Lewis has allowed a total of 14 goals or 3.5 goals per game average She now has 385 saves, 9.82 goals against average and 24-12 record. She has faced 1,006 shots in her career.
CSB Team Stats
Through 12 games, CSB has scored 149 goals and registered 65 assists. The Bennies are averaging 30.7 shots per game and have totaled 270 ground balls, 144 forced turnovers, and 162 draw controls. The team has a 78.0 percent clear success rate while holding opponents to 65.6 percent. CSB has allowed 119 goals and 50 assists, with opponents averaging 23.4 shots per game.

Head Coach Patrick Crandall
In his third season at the helm, Patrick Crandall holds a 27-13 record and has led the Bennies to two Midwest Lacrosse Conference titles with an undefeated 12-0 conference record. This is CSB's first season in the WIAC under Crandall's leadership.
