Game Preview - CSB lacrosse faces road test at UW-Stout in WIAC action

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict lacrosse team (6-5, 3-2 WIAC), which has won three-straight games, will travel to face UW-Stout (7-3, 2-3 WIAC) in WIAC play on Wednesday, April 15 at Menomonie, Wis.

Currently tied for third in the WIAC standings, the Bennies are hitting their stride. They earned their first-ever WIAC victory in a dramatic 12-11 win over UW-La Crosse on April 5, led by first-year standout Ava Mosley's four-goal performance, including the game-tying score in the final minutes. Mosley, named the St. Cloud Orthopedics Athlete of the Week, also assisted on Sami Hackley's eighth career game-winning goal.

After a tough 15-4 loss to Northern Michigan on April 6, CSB bounced back in a big way. They set a program record with a 25-0 win over Augsburg on April 9, followed by a 13-5 road win at Milwaukee School of Engineering. Most recently, the Bennies defeated UW-Eau Claire, 12-6, on April 14, with Mosley and Emma Osland combining for seven goals and Chloe Lewis making 11 saves in net.

Earlier this season, CSB opened with a 17-4 win over Edgewood and saw tough losses against ranked opponents like No. 24 University of Chicago (20-6), No. 17 Colorado College (17-4), and Chapman (21-9). Hackley, who reached the 100-goal career milestone in a dominant performance against Hamline on March 12, has remained a consistent offensive force.

UW-Stout Notes
he Blue Devils, led by head coach Mikayla Knudson, are 7-3 overall and 2-3 in WIAC play. They are coming off a 19-3 loss to No. 17 Colorado College, but prior to that notched a 16-12 victory over Southwestern. UW-Stout has tallied 95 goals this season while allowing 108 and is led by Mai Nou Vang with 28 goals and 40 points. Riley Schulte and Abigail Todey follow with 14 and 13 goals, respectively.

CSB leads UW-Stout, 1-0 in the all-time series. A year ago, the Bennies recorded a 16-7 win over UW-Stout.

CSB Player Highlights
  • Sami Hackley (Junior): Hackley scored 23 goals and dished out nine assists (32 points), ranking second on the team in both categories. With 113 career goals, she's the first player in CSB history to reach that level of goal scoring. Hackley has scored multiple goals in 18 of her last 22 games and has a career-high eight game-winning goals. She has eight games with five or more goals, including a program-record nine against Augsburg on April 12, 2024.
  • Ava Mosley (First Year): In the win of UW-Eau Claire, Mosley tallied four goals on seven shots, marking her sixth multi-goal game of the year and third straight with at least three scores. She now leads the team with 25 goals and 33 points.
  • Hannah Kurowski (First Year): Kurowski has eight goals and six assists, accumulating 14 points.
  • Emma Nelson (Sophomore): Nelson scored 11 goals and provided seven assists, adding a team-high 24 draw controls and 12 forced turnovers.
  • Lizzie Schrubbe (Sophomore): Schrubbe seven goals, five assists, and 18 ground balls in 2025. Last season, she set a CSB program record with 50 assists and 12 points in a single game.
  • Izzy Bohlman (First Year): Bohlman contributed 21 goals and one assist for 22 points, ranking third on the team. She has 20 ground balls, ranking third on the team in both categories.
  • Emma Osland (Senior): Osland scored season-high three goals in the win over UW-Eau Claire, increasing her season total to six and her career mark to 53.
  • Chloe Lewis (Goalkeeper): Lewis, who is 4-5 this season in net, has made 86 saves in nine appearances this season, with 11.20 goals against average. In the last three games – all wins, Lewis has allowed a total of 11 goals. She now has 378 saves, 10.00 goals against average and 23-12 record.
CSB Team Stats
Through nine games, CSB has scored 132 goals and registered 61 assists. The Bennies are averaging 29.6 shots per game and have totaled 243 ground balls, 138 forced turnovers, and 146 draw controls. The team has a 76.5 percent clear success rate while holding opponents to 67.5 percent. CSB has allowed 116 goals and 50 assists, with opponents averaging 24.3 shots per game.

Head Coach Patrick Crandall
In his third season at the helm, Patrick Crandall holds a 26-13 record and has led the Bennies to two Midwest Lacrosse Conference titles with an undefeated 12-0 conference record. This is CSB's first season in the WIAC under Crandall's leadership.
